Thanks for downloading TradeWars Macros version 1.0.0. This is a very
small file as of yet, but as I get ideas not already taken up by
Frederick R. Polli in his Power Macros, I'll add to this file. So far,
there are two macros I have written that are really of any consistent use.
They are the Notepad and the Automatic Message writer. They use the F7
and F8 keys, so if you already have Power Macros, there will be no
conflict.
If there are any macros that you would like to see, please notify me.
I am a member of almost all the BBS's in the 414 area code, so it's easy
to reach me.
Here are the macros I have written for this file.
F7: Jot something down on the NotePad
Shft-F7: Display current Notepad
Ctrl-F7: Set default Notepad to use (Registered version)
Alt-F7: Delete current Notepad file (Registered version)
F8: Automatic Message Writer
Shft-F8: Set a name as the default (Registered version)
IMPORTANT: You need {COMMO} version 5.2 or higher in order to use
these macros, for they are written in that program's macro language.
If you already use Power Macros, then you can do two things:
1) Rename TWMAC100.MAC to COMMO2.MAC. Then, you can use {COMMO}'s
MACload function to switch between Power Macros and TradeWars Macros.
2) Block copy the file TWMAC101.MAC into the current COMMO.MAC file
after the point in which it says ****END TWMACS****. You will then have
access to both sets of macros at the same time.
If you do not already use Power Macros, rename the COMMO.MAC file
COMMO2.MAC, then rename the TWMAC100.MAC as COMMO.MAC. You will now have
access to the TradeWars Macros as well as the regular {COMMO} macros.
Now, on to the actual descriptions. First will be a section
explaining the unregistered version, then the registered version
instructions will follow.
UNREGISTERED
<<<< F7: Jot something down >>>>
After pressing F7, enter the name of the notepad file you wish to use (a
good way is to have one for each BBS, naming the notepad files with the
appropriate names. IE: Anonymous BBS might be ANON.NOT). If the file
doesn't exist, it will be created. Now, enter the sector number you wish
to write about. Finally, enter the note, to a maximum of 60 characters.
Then press enter.
<<<< Shft-F7: Read notepad file >>>>
This will clear the screen and then will display the current Notepad
file. Don't worry, it won't actually send the characters to the BBS, it'll
just display them on your monitor. When it's finished, you'll see the
command line.
<<<< F8: Automatic Message Writer >>>>
After pressing F8, enter the name, in caps, of the person you wish to
send the letter to. Then, enter the message, up to 60 characters only.
Press enter. Sit back and watch as the macro writes the letter. Note:
you must be at the main prompt, or the macro
will not work properly.
REGISTERED VERSION
F7 and Shft-F7 work the same as in the unregistered version.
<<<< Ctrl-F7: Set default Notepad file >>>>
NOTE: You must use this macro before you do any message writing or
reading. If you don't the macro won't know what file to open, and an
error will result.
After the input window comes up, enter the name of the file
which will be used for the particular TW game. This filename will be
used by each write and read command. No more entering it each time you
jot something down!
<<<< Alt-F7: Delete current Notepad file >>>>
If you want to delete the current Notepad file, press Alt-F7. You will
be given the chance to say y/n. If "y", the file will be deleted. If
"n", the file will remain as before.
<<<< F8: Automatic Message Writer >>>>
This macro works essentially the same as in the unregistered version,
except for one thing:
1) You can enter up to 120 characters in the letter, instead of the
unregistered version's 60.
Press F8. The name you set using Shft-F8 will be displayed, unless you
chose the full automation feature (see below). Press enter if correct,
or erase it and enter a new one, then press enter. Enter your message.
When you get to the end of the input box, press enter. A second input
box will appear. Continue your message. Finally, press enter, and watch
how the macro writes the message.
<<<< Shft-F8: Set a name as the default >>>>
This will allow you to type in a name which will automatically appear in
the input box when writing a message. Next, an input box will appear
asking if you want the full automation feature. If you type "y", you
won't be prompted for a name when using F8. If you type "n", the default
name will be displayed in the input box when writing a message using F8.
Well, that's it for the first version of TradeWars macros. If you
would like to receive the registered version of TradeWars Macros, send
$5 plus $2 S&H to...

Include your name and address. Also, you may include suggestions for
other macros. If I use a suggestion, you will receive an unregistered
version of the updated macros free of charge! Any comments on improving
the existing macros are also greatly appreciated. As soon as I receive
your check or money order, I will send you a disk (specify size please!)
with the registered version.
Until then, happy trading!
